Sony Takes Driveclub "Back to the Drawing Board", New Details Coming Soon

Evolution Studio's next racer has gone "back to the drawing board" according to Sony's Scott Rohde. Driveclub, announced as a launch title for the PlayStation 4 was delayed in October to an unspecified date in early 2014. At the time Sony worldwide studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said the following, "Driveclub will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision - and I'm fully confident the game will surpass your expectations."

By way of IGN, we're hearing some more details on why Driveclub was delayed and if we should still expect it soon. IGN spoke to Scott Rohde recently and he had this to say, "... we really don't want to release a game before it's ready. And sometimes, this happens in the normal course of business, where we think we're on track to deliver what we think is going to be a great game, and when we get closer, we realize that we'd be doing everyone a disservice if we shipped it before it was ready."

"So, I think that at PlayStation, perhaps more than at other places, we're willing to kinda eat that [cost]," Rohde continued, "and go back to the drawing board and make sure the game is great before we ship it. And that's what's going on right now with that game," Rohde told IGN.

Sony Once Again Changes PS3 Box Art, Christmas Shopping in Jeopardy!

Driveclub is being developed by Evolution Studios, the team behind the PS3 MotorStorm series. A free version of the game was announced to release alongside the full version as a PlayStation Plus exclusive, but with a reduced amount of tracks and cars.

An alleged deleted Tweet by the DriveClub Twitter page supposidly posted May 4, 2014 as a day to "mark your calenders" for. Assuming Sony PR's statement that new information will be revealed soon is true, then perhaps that's an announcement date. I guess we'll see.

For now, why not just occupy yourself by going to see "Need for Speed" in theaters? Wait, where'd you go?!
