After being delayed for a few times, "Torment: Tides of Numenera" will now be released. February 28, 2017 will be the exact release date of the game simultaneously on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
The game is a spiritual successor of Planescape: Torment, the critically acclaimed game in 1999. Techland will publish the fantasy role-playing game together with the InXile Entertainment. "Torment: Tides of Numenera" will be sold through its new Techland Publishing label, as Techland previously announced. A Techland representative confirmed that "Torment: Tides of Numenera" will have a physical retail release on all platforms.
According to Polygon, "Torment: Tides of Numenera" takes place in a fantasy campaign setting called Numenera written by Monte Cook. The game let players give greater emphasis on interaction with the world and characters because it is primarily story-driven, while taking a secondary role is with combat and item accumulation. This might sound either impenetrably complex or dull, but Torment's unique "Effort" system kept it from being either for the players. This is due to a lot of choices and skill checks that the players can make and dialogues feels like reading a good book because it was interspersed with descriptive passages.
On March 2013, in the first six hours of the project's launch, through Kickstarter, the game was successfully crowd-funded. With over US$4 million pledged, "Torment: Tides of Numenera" had set a record for Kickstarter's highest-funded video game. February 2017 is not the initial release date, it was initially set last December 2014 but was pushed back.
According to IGN, "Torment: Tides of Numenera" is a game where countless human and alien civilizations have risen and fallen in a large equally weird world of the distant future. The game will take you into some sort of techno-fantasy where anything seems possible or permissible, without knowing if all of that possibilities will be mined.
