Samsung Galaxy S5 Includes Free Fitness and Business App Subscriptions, Gets an Official Hands-On Demo [Video]

The next iteration of Samsung's flagship Galaxy smartphone is one month away and some details are still making their way to the public. Most of the phone's features and specs were covered at the Galaxy S5's unveiling at Mobile World Congress, but we're now hearing that Samsung will include free subscriptions to several fitness and news apps.

Samsung made a point of emphasizing fitness and an on-the-go lifestyle as part of the Galaxy S5's identity. It's supposed to be a companion to those aspects of your life and so they've included year-long subscription to fitness apps RunKeeper and Lark, and six months to pace-tracker MapMyFitness and workout trainer Skimble.

In addition, they're including three and 12 month (depending on your region) subscriptions to Evernote Premium, the popular note-taking and management app, and a year-long subscription to Bloomberg Businessweek. What has become a standard free 50GB Dropbox account is again included.

It's not a bad deal to get these for free with your new phone, though I'm assuming their hope is that you renew some of these subscriptions and return as a customer. Some may accuse this of being unwanted bloatware, which to some degree it is if users have no interest.

But even then, you have to admit it's a better deal than the usual free software, since these are paid subscriptions to some pretty popular apps. If you don't want them, I'm assuming they can be uninstalled (though it's possible they might not be) as they are just normal apps otherwise.

Samsung is including the heart-rate sensor built into the Galaxy S5 and some other features that are pushing the phone as a companion to an active lifestyle. Samsung's new smartphone is due out April 11 and is demonstrated in the official hands-on video below.
