Developer Infinity Ward finally let the cat out of the bag, and detailed the next DLC lined up for Call of Duty: Ghosts, Devastation. If you want all the fancy details on the new maps and mission for Extinction, you can check out all the tasty tidbits here. But if you want to know about the brand new weapon that leaked earlier, don't go anywhere.
During the DLC's informative trailer, Joseph Cecot, Infinity Ward's Multiplayer Designer for Ghosts, took the time to talk about the new hybrid weapon, the Ripper, a two-in-one gun that follows in the footsteps of the Maverick, a sniper assault rifle combo that came courtesy of Ghosts' first DLC, Onslaught.
"The Ripper brings with it something we've never done in call of duty before," said Cecot. "It gives you the ability to switch between a submachinegun and assault rifle on the fly. You need to clear a room? Switch to your submachine gun, fire from the hip, take 'em out. You need to pick a guy off at a distance? Swap to your AR, flip your reflex sight, and pick 'em off."
The Ripper is brand spanking new, but it's not the only weapon to be tossed in. The Venom-X from the Nightfall episode of Ghosts' Extinction Mode, offered in the Onslaught DLC, is an easter egg that can be found in the Unearthed map, a remake of the Dome map from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The more weapons, the merrier the carnage.
But the really good news is that you don't have to wait for Devastation to drop before you can try the Ripper, because it will be available today.
But here's the catch -- only Season Pass holders get it today, and only holders on Xbox platforms. Everyone else will have to wait until Devastation drops in April. It hasn't been confirmed, but PC and PlayStation gamers should expect the usual 30 day waiting period to get their hands on it. Similarly, no word on whether Pass holders on those platforms will get Ripper access before then.
