Path of Exile Expansion Sacrifice of the Vaal Out Today for Free

The free-to-play action RPG Path of Exile has been successful while remaining ethical since launch, and now the first expansion has dropped. The free added content Sacrifice of the Vaal is out today and contains new locations, weapons, and enemies.

The mini-expansion is the first of three updates promised throughout the year by developer Grinding Gear Games. The new content features a showdown with the Queen of the Vaal, a free-for-all PvP game mode, and new leagues with timed challenges.

The developers have also promised special bonuses to players who are quicker and stronger than the rest: the first 50 players to defeat the Queen in every one of the new challenge leagues will receive an exclusive Vaal-themed item. If you have a chance to be one of those 50, better get fighting!

The patch also includes changes to character and enemy balancing, and as such the developers have granted everyone an optional full passive reset. If you'd like to respect your character, Grinding Gear Games is providing you the perfect opportunity to make use of the rebalanced system.

Path of Exile is free to download and play through Steam and features online co-op and competitive gameplay modes, a variety of enemies and locales, and a deep expansive skill tree shared by all character classes. Watch the trailer for Sacrifice of the Gaal below and hop online to test your mettle in the new update. I've played a good amount of Path of Exile and can personally recommend it if you enjoy the genre.
