Developers Double Eleven recently did loyal PlayStation Vita owners a big favor by bringing a great HD version of PixelJunk Monsters to the system with PixelJunk Monsters: Ultimate HD.
Now the developer is moving on to their next hit property, PixelJunk Shooter, and is creating a remake of the first two games in a singular package for the Vita and PlayStation 4 with PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate.
The game will be a digital release available on PlayStation Network for both systems. PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate will combine PixelJunk Shooter and PixelJunk Shooter 2 into one "flowing narrative" that melds the two games together.
It's an interesting concept, and I think a good one. Rather than release an edition of the game that has both PixelJunk Shooter titles within it separately, they're making the extra effort to combine them into one cohesive package. The titles, originally made by Q-Games, will be upgraded to run in 1080p at 60fps.
"We knew the amount work that Q-Games put into the original level design by hiding challenge inside of simplicity, providing control over the ship's balance between momentum and inertia, and we held those things as constants," said Double Eleven's Mark South.
"There were two solid games to play with, so our goals were going to be around making the combat more engaging, providing better control and visual feedback to the player as well bringing in some PlayStation features we think are must haves like Cross Play and Cross Save."
PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate should be out some time this summer, and will also include local co-op for the campaign, online multiplayer battles, and leaderboards. Stay tuned for more details.
