In 20 years our children will be talking about Flappy Bird. It will be in history books as this cultural phenomenon that was perpetuated by controversy. Dong Nguyen, creator of Flappy Bird, will have no doubt become a prime contender for Vietnam's next president and will have solved word hunger by creating Flappy Packages to deliver food to the hungry. By then, we'll also have genetically engineered real flappy birds to protect us from alien invaders hellbent on taking away our freedom. The Flappy Wars will decimate the Earth over the course of five years, but we will prevail in the end – like we always do.
I don't really know what I'm saying right now, but that's OK. We're talking about Flappy Bird again, because it is indeed still a hot topic in the game industry. The game may have been taken down by its creator, but the internet can't get enough of Flappy!

Today, by way of Kotaku, we're seeing a Flappy mod brought to Grand Theft Auto V. Why? Because modders are wonderful, that's why. Modders "julionib" and "quechus13" have created the Flappy mod and intend to release it today.
In the mod, players must flap their arms to avoid touching the ground and have to land on unsuspecting pedestrians for points. A score meter has been added to the top left corner of the screen as well to adapt the score-chasing nature of the original Flappy Bird. Sounds from the mobile game have also been included, making this mod as authentic as you can get when mashing together an open-world crime game with an addictive mobile game.
If things continue like they have been, I fully expect a Flappy Bird / Angry Birds crossover. It's inevitable.
