The indie game industry is on a roll today as yet another new interesting game has been announced. If you're looking for a pretty new game featuring a Metroidvania-style exploration and puzzle system, forma.8 might interest you. It will also be available on a bunch of gaming platforms ranging from home consoles to mobile devices. So, it will be kinda hard to miss.
forma.8 is being developed by Italian indie studio MixedBag – a two person team consisting of Mauro Fanelli and Andrea Gellato. Described to be an original take on the Metroidvania formula, forma.8 is a sci-fi adventure game starring a tiny probe tasked with recovering an energy source buried deep below the surface of an alien planet. The game shares the name with its little protagonist.
Players of forma.8 can expect vertical and horizontal exploration with environmental puzzles and a world where everything is physics based. Featuring high resolution vector graphics and loads of anti-aliasing, Mauro Fanelli, co-founder of MixedBag, says that the game will be extremely clean and devoid of visible pixels, even on consoles. As an added plus, the game will run at 60 frames per second.
The game is said to lack player guidance as the story is one that players must uncover through exploration. Enemies will range from big to small and alien powerups can be used to protect yourself from their attacks.

Just last week, via the PlayStation Blog, MixedBag had also announced that they're developing a Vita exclusive shoot 'em up based on their very first game as a studio, Futuridium EP Deluxe. Both forma.8 and Futuridium feature eye-melting colors, music by Italian glitch-hop artist Qubit, and are set to release sometime in 2014.
forma.8 will be available on PlayStation 4, Vita, Wii U, iOS, PC, Mac, and Linux later this year. If you can't wait to play it, close your eyes and rub really hard until you see colors. Better? Oh, well, too bad.
