Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to Adapt Novel Chronicling Sega and Nintendo's Console War

Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg to Direct Film Chronicling Sega and Nintendo's Console War

Atlantic Books has announced that the comedic team behind "Superbad" and "Knocked Up" are making a movie about an epic moment in gamer history: the feud between Sega and Nintendo. Based on Blake Harris' book "Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation", the film will chronicle the events that transpired during Nintendo and Sega's battle for the game industry. From the sound of the press release, it sounds like Sega will be cast as the underdog, facing a mighty Nintendo in the '90s when combative ads like “Genesis does what Nintendon't” could be spotted on TV.

Sony Pictures and producer Scott Rudin ("Moneyball", "The Social Network") will be bringing the film to the big screen with Rogen and Goldberg as directors and writers of the screenplay. The book's author, Blake Harris will be acting as an Executive Producer of the film. Rogen and Goldberg have recently co-directed “This Is the End”.

For those that may not be a big fan of a dramatization (and potentially comedic) bio-flick of these events, a documentary on the same subject matter has also been announced, with Harris acting as co-director.

It's about time the game industry received a movie about a significant moment in its history. Apple and Microsoft have "The Pirates of Silicon Valley" and last year's "Jobs", and Facebook has "The Social Network". I'm not expecting an all too serious take on the feud, but hopefully an entertaining one.

"Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation", the book, is set to release on May 13.
