Horror Game Daylight Release Date Set for April: Supports Oculus Rift, RealD 3D, And Allows You To Scare Your Friends Via Twitch

Horror Game Daylight Gets Release Date, Brilliant Twitch Integration

Atlus has sent over some new screens and details for Daylight, their upcoming Unreal Engine 4-powered horror game from Zombie Studios. As if the prospect of losing your mind exploring randomly generated levels armed only with a cell phone wasn't terrifying enough, they've announced that you can play it in 3D, even with the Oculus Rift, and that the game has perhaps the most ingenious use of Twitch streaming you've ever heard. It's not far away either- the release date is set for April 8th on PS4 and PC.

Daylight's trailer showed off just how scary the game looks (that hospital!) but perhaps the greatest feature of all is its integration with Twitch. Zombie Studios has found a way to make Twitch chat cue in-game events. That means that if you're playing the game and some "friend" of yours decides to type a certain word into the chat while watching you play, something will occur in the game. The only key word they've been tossing around (and this isn't finalized so it might not make it in the final game) is "Meow". If someone types that you'll hear a cat screech in-game, hopefully scaring you silly and making your buddies cackle. All of these cues are on timers so you can't keep spamming someone playing the game and ruin their experience, and Atlus says they're not going to tell you the full list of words. You'll have to find them yourselves, which should make for some entertaining chat logs.

Pretty brilliant.

The other big announcement is that the PS4 and PC versions of Daylight will be 3D compatible out of the box for 3D-enabled TVs and monitors using RealD, the same technology used in movie theaters. It's also compatible with the Oculus Rift, if you have the cojones to try it out. The Oculus Rift increasingly seems like an amazing bit of tech for horror games, becuase it's one thing to see some lurking monstrosity behind you in a game, and another to have to turn around to see it.

They've also revealed two new locations for the game. While you start in a hospital you'll unlock a prison after you escape it. As you can imagine it surely was a nice, minimum-security type deal with lots of happy, well-attended inmates.

Another later level in the game is The Forest, which you'll get to after escaping the prison via a sewer system. It's the first big open area in the game but once again you only have your mobile phone to light the way. As with the rest of the game things will be randomly generated, making for a different experience every time you play through.

Best of all? Daylight will debut for a mere $14.99. Not bad for a chance to let your friends scare you to death. See you on Twitch in April.
