The death of Flappy Bird is still being felt among addicted gamers around the world who refuse to let it go quietly. If it's not going to return to iOS and Android, well then, they're going to recreate it any way they can. It's been popping back to life in various forms on a variety of platforms but now it's been remade in other games such as Minecraft and LittleBigPlanet. It has to be flattering - you haven't really made it as a game designer unless someone has spent countless hours turning your creation into a Minecraft level, I don't think.
The creator of Flappy Bird (the improbably named Dong Nguyen) may have wished it away to the cornfield but it keeps popping its head up. There's the Flappy Jam that features hundreds of designers making their own Flappy games, an authorized 3DS port, there's even Squishy Bird, which lets you control the pipes instead and allow you to squash that infernal bird.
The Flappy clones are pouring into the App Google Play stores but it looks like Apple and Google are trying to block any more clones from appearing on the marketplaces. Amusing to see them concerned about clones of other games, for once. The one thing they can't stop is it being remade in other games, such as Minecraft. The video below shows a fully functional Flappy Bird game inside a game of Minecraft.
You have to wonder what these people could do if they weren't spending hundreds of hours recreating someone else's work, don't you? Here's another version, this time recreated on LittleBigPlanet for the PS Vita.
