Former world No. 1 and current No. 9, Rafael Nadal, is already starting to get ready for next season. He just signed fellow countryman and former world No. 1, Carlos Moya, as part of his coaching staff. Moya joins Toni Nadal and Francisco Roig in Nadal's corner.
"I am very excited to announce that Carlos Moya will join my team immediately and work together with Toni and Francisco Roig. To have someone like Carlos who is not only a friend but also a very important person in my career is something special. He will be next to me at my practices and competition," Nadal said, via ATPWorldTour.com.
Moya, who reached world No.1 status in 1999, recently coached world No. 3 Milos Raonic. He helped the Canadian superstar from being number 16 up to the third best player in the world. Besides being part of Nadal's coaching staff, Moya will also serve as a technical adviser in the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar.
"To be able to help Rafa is something special for me and I am sure that together with Toni, Francisco and the rest of the team we have a great common project," Moya said.
The 40-year-old tennis legend also called Nadal a special player and he is looking forward to helping him win more titles in the future. The Spanish star had a disappointing 2016 campaign as he dropped to ninth in the world after a wrist injury ended his season prematurely.
In an interview with Tennis World USA, Nadal revealed that he feels great with the hiring of Moya. He also mentioned that his wrist is okay since he is able to practice for many hours every day. He is feeling tired but he is ready for next season.
Rafael Nadal will start off the 2017 season in Abu Dhabi for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship before heading to Brisbane. After those two tournaments, Nadal is one of the favorites to win the 2017 Australian Open.
