Even though there's over 700 of the adorable little creatures, everyone wants more Pokémon. We got our first peek at the rock-fairy type Diancie (and two others) back in November courtesy of a dedicated fan digging through some of code of Pokémon X and Y, but no one was quite sure the new creatures were authentic. But thanks to a feature in CoroCoro magazine, there's finally some hard evidence.
Fan site Serebii got their hands on the issue, scanned it, and posted the applicable information on the new pocket monster. Seen above, it's a visual treat, but there's not much about the pokémon itself. Diancie is set to appear in the next Pokémon movie, titled, "Cocoon of Destruction & Diancie," and will eventually appear in the latest games, though it's unknown exactly when.
That's about it for all the hard evidence, but there's also been a fair amount of rumors that have surfaced in the last few weeks. For example, according to "hackers," Diancie would be caught during an event called "Couriway Ticket," which would have the player take the train from Couriway City to a new area. Diancie's special ability was also said to be called "Shining Jewel," and would power up special moves, provided no weather effects were in play. Given the design, it stands to reason that whopper of a diamond on Diancie's head would be involved in one way or another.
According to the Pokemon Wikia, "Cocoon of Destruction" hits Japanese theaters this summer. The movie involves a showdown between the titular legendaries of the latest games, Yveltal and Xerneas, as opposing forces representing destruction and life respectively. It opens July 19, 2014, so expect Diancie to hit Pokémon X and Y sometime after that.
Pokémon X and Y released last month to rave reviews as well as great sales numbers. As a matter of fact, Game Freak Director Junichi Masuda's recently revealed that since launch, over ten million of the little monsters have been exchanged since the game launched. It's also reported by Nintendo Life that Masuda expressed interest in making more Mega Evolutions.
The games represent a radical change for the franchise, the top down perspective having been replaced with more of a three quarter perspective, and battles look radically different. As per usual, players will see several new pokémon, 5 of which were teased in the game's trailer at the time of the announcement. There's the usual array of new starter Pokémon, and each game will play host its own type of new, legendary Pokémon. And what's more, a number of classic Pokémon have earned mega-evolutions they can transform into during battle.
No DLC is planned for the games.
