Injustice: Gods Among Us Mobile News - Players Get Free Power Credits to Celebrate One Billion Play Sessions

Mobile Version of Injustice: Gods Among Us Crosses One Billion Play Sessions, Gives Players 30,000 Free Power Credits to Celebrate

With two months on Android and another ten on iOS, it seems that quite a few gamers just can't resist slap fighting with some of the biggest names in the DC Universe, because in that amount of time, over one billion play sessions have been had on the free-to-play mobile versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us. And publisher Warner Bros. thinks that's cause for celebration.

According to a recent press release, the publisher sees a billion play sessions as a pretty good reason to shower its players with power credits, Injustice's own virtual currency. As the release notes, "Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainment today announced that the popular Injustice: Gods Among Us mobile game has amassed more than one billion play sessions since its launch in April 2013. To commemorate this impressive milestone, those who play the game from today through the weekend will receive 30,000 free power credits, the currency necessary to unleash awesome, over-the-top super moves."

The news came with a nice bit of artwork of the DCU's own benevolent dictator General Zod, seen above, taking credit for makin' it rain. I guess you can have pretty deep pockets when your riches are kept in a pocket universe like the Phantom Zone.

Scores for the game are a bit mixed depending on where you get for reviews, but it's still popular. The mobile versions come with unlocks for the game on console versions, and at no cost. But with touchscreen controls, it's a different experience then pummeling Supes on console. Unlike other iOS / Android fighters like Marvel Superheroes, or Street Fighter Volt, there's no virtual joystick, so player movement is controlled automatically. Light attacks, heavy attacks, super movies and special moves are all present, but without the joystick, they're performed by simple taps on the game screen.

The game itself is a free download, but you know what that means: micro transactions. Coins, the brawler's in-game currency of choice can be used to expand the game beyond its beginning roster of a measly three characters, all the way up to 36 in all, as well as more bonuses like costumes, weapons, and the like. But this new influx of cash should help you gather a larger roster.

This isn't the first impressive feat for Injustice. Not long after the game's release, the comic series that acted as a prequel to the events of the game took over Amazon's section of Kindle Top Twenty for Single Issue Comics. Respectable enough for a comic, let alone one based on a video game.

There's also an Ultimated Edition of the game out now for PlayStation 4 and PS Vita, offering all of the game's DLC that's been released so far: Batgirl, Lobo, Zatanna, Martian Manhunter, General Zod, and Mortal Kombat's own Scorpion, not to mention all those extra S.T.A.R. Lab missions.
