Minecraft PS3 Edition Sells More Than One Million Copies- Future Versions (PS4, Vita, Realms) Discussed

Minecraft PS3 Edition Sells More Than One Million Copies- Future Versions Discussed

If you thought that the massive number of copies of Minecraft already sold on the Xbox 360 and mobile devices (26 million and counting) would stop it from being a hit on PS3, you were wrong. Also- absurd. Minecraft is the biggest thing going in gaming right now and Mojang has just revealed that Minecraft: Playstation 3 Edition has sold over one million copies in a mere five months.

"Hope you are enjoying the picking and placing of blocks," said Daniel Kaplan, business manager of Mojang in a blog. "Just wanted to let you know that Minecraft on PS3 recently sold over 1 million copies (that has to be some kind of record on PSN, no?). It is crazy considering the game was released just before Christmas last year. We are super grateful for the support and we are very thankful for your dedication and I hope you will like the future updates we have planned for you (more on that in a later blog post)."

Of course if you want to compare sales, the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition sold a million copies in five days. That was the first console release, though, and people were appropriately excited. Now you can find Minecraft everywhere right now- you can even pick up plushes of the main characters in drug stores.

Mojang isn't resting on its laurels. They're constantly updating all of the versions of the game with new features, such as the new Twitch integration for the PC version. There's are new skins constantly being created up (The Avengers was the latest) and new features being thought up all the time.

Next up for them is Minecraft Realms, which will allow players to create and manage their own private servers. It's easier and faster than the main game and you'll be allowed to manage your realm from inside the game. It's intended more for people who want private realms to invite groups of friends to join and there are cetainly tons of people who would take advantage of this feature. It's currently in alpha, with a pocket edition for mobile devices (appropriated called Pocket Realms) in alpha right now as well.

New versions of Minecraft are also in the works for the PS4 and Vita, although they were recently delayed. We'll see if Mojang can keep up the same staggering amount of success across all platforms where the game becomes available. (Spoiler- YUP)
