The Boston Celtics have a pretty good team. They've got a good point guard in Isaiah Thomas and a lot of good role players like Avery Bradley and Marcus Smart. They got a great head coach in Brad Stevens. During the summer, the Boston Celtics also snagged one the biggest free agents in All Star center Al Horford.
Expectations were high for the Boston Celtics coming into the 2016-2017 NBA Season. But despite a career year from Isaiah Thomas and the excellent play of Avery Bradley, the Boston Celtics are just one game over .500 with a 13-12 win loss record. The Boston Celtics are currently in 6th place in the Eastern Conference and are on a three game losing streak. The defense that was a crucial part of the success of the Boston Celtics last season, is suddenly non-existent this season.
The Boston Celtics' poor start has prompted Boston Celtics' General Manager Danny Ainge to start looking for possible deals that could lead to a big trade and land the Boston Celtics a legitimate superstar player. The big problem for the Boston Celtics is that, currently, there's no market for superstar caliber players in the NBA.
But knowing Danny Ainge, the lack of superstars in the trade market is just a minor bump on the road for Danny Ainge. You can bet your money that Danny Ainge for sure will find ways to make a trade happen before the February trade deadline. With a platoon of assets in draft picks and players to use as trade baits, Danny Ainge will be fully armed and ready for the trade wars ahead.
One player that is on Danny Ainge's radar is Utah Jazz small forward Gordon Hayward. This season, Gordon Hayward is having a career year, averaging 22.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in 35.4 minutes of playing time. Because of Gordon Hayward's excellent performance, he could be an All Star for the first time this season.
As for trading Gordon Hayward, the Utah Jazz most likely won't make a deal before the trade deadline. One option for Danny Ainge and the Boston Celtics is to pursue Gordon Hayward next summer when he becomes a free agent. Though observers say that Gordon Hayward would most probably stay with the Utah Jazz, the Boston Celtics have an ace up their sleeve in head coach Brad Stevens. Brad Stevens is Gordon Hayward's former coach at Butler University.
What the Boston Celtics will do in the next few weeks is anybody's guess. But with a lot of assets and role players, the Boston Celtics has the ability to make a big trade or they could wait it out till next summer and pursue Gordon Hayward. Given Danny Ainge's track record of making the smart decisions, the Boston Celtics have complete trust and faith on whatever path Danny Ainge wishes to cross.
