I'm sure some of you are still scavenging through Far Cry 3's Rook Islands for the very last letter of long-gone WWII Japanese soldiers, but most of use are ready for Ubisoft's next drug fueled jungle adventure in the series, and according to one source, it looks like it's already in development.
Videogamer noticed a LinkedIn profiled from Ubisoft's Xavier Plagnal, who's been with the company since 1998, and worked on numerous properties: a few Rayman games, a Splinter Cell or two, and a few other titles. But what's really eye catching is one of the more recent listings, where Plagnal, currently with Ubisoft Shanghai, credits himself as Content Director for what else? The next Far Cry. You can see the profile for yourself here.
Ubisoft Shanghai worked on Far Cry 3, along with Ubisoft Massive and Ubisoft Red Storm, so to have that wing of the company continue on the next Far Cry makes sense. Like the other games in the series, expect it to feature brand new chracters, setting, and more FPS bloodshed.
Unfortunately, since this is only a listing, there's not much else to go on. Ubisoft has been relatively quiet on announcing, or even discussing a new Far Cry project, but this isn't the first time a fourth game in the series has come up.
Back in October, composer Cliff Martinez, whose works include "Drive," "Traffic," "Contagion," and EA's Spore in 2008, talked about his future projects, which included "a Soderbergh TV series called The Knick, and I'm working on a video game called Far Cry 4."
All the studio has ever said on a new Far Cry came from Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales, Tony Key, who said in July, "We're totally psyched from [Far Cry 3]. It's a great brand, and now it's got the recognition it deserves, so we're clearly going to make another one: more on that soon."
Earlier this month, Ubisoft announced a Far Cry Anthology was in the works called The Wild Expedition, consisting of all 3 games (including a HD revamp of the first game), and the standalone DLC, Blood Dragon. It's due out when romance is in the air, February 14. We'll keep you posted if anything else Far Cry related manages to slip through the cracks.
