Android Wear 2.0 is still a few months away from launch and many are wondering what improvements will come with the new version. One of the improvements that will come with the updated is the ability to install apps and to run from the watch instead of on the connected phone. This means that it will have the ability to run stand-alone apps. As we await for the long-awaited launch of Android Wear 2.0. here is a glimpse of three stand-alone apps on the device:
Glide
Glide is an app for simplifying video messaging. For Android Wear devices that have a camera, Glide allows live broadcasting directly from the watch. Just tap on the contact shortcuts to launch a conversation without the need for a phone. This can be made possible through the Communications API that comes with the app.
Foursquare
Perhaps many people are aware of Foursquare. Using this app on Android Wear will let the user discover hidden places in the cities where they travel. Aside from that, Foursquare for Android Wear comes with a new notification interface that allows a more immersive experience. With the new feature, users can get more information delivered on their watch without connecting to their smartphone.
Lifesum
Lifesum is a helpful app for users who want to make smart decisions about the food they eat, their type of exercise, and their set health goals. The app allows the user to easily monitor the amount of water and the kind of food they ate during the day. Even without their phones, users will be able to receive fresh data on their watch.
Joakim Hammer, developer of the app, believes in giving users a quick and simple way to track their meals and water intake in their desire to become healthier and happier.
Aside from the stand-alone apps, Android Wear 2.0 also allows in-app billing. Purchases can be authorized by the user using a simple four-digit PIN number.
