Fans of Overwatch were slightly disappointed to when they updated the New Winter Wonderland Patch. What is the reason for their disappointment? Only a few heroes were given new skins.
Since the start of the game, it seems that Blizzard Entertainment's Overwatch is starting a tradition of making patches based on special occasions and celebrations. Their Halloween Patch made fans obsess over their costumes and other freebies. The New Winter Wonderland Patch, however, was a bit disappointing as only a few heroes got new skins. Others were left with smaller items.
Among the 23 heroes of Overwatch, only TWELVE got new skins. The few heroes who got new skins for the new Winter Wonderland Patch are Lucio, Mei, Torbjörn, McCree, Pharah, Tracer, Reaper, Zarya, Zenyatta, Sombra, Roadhog, and Winston. The rest of the heroes only have victory poses, and emotes. All of the heroes, however, got new icons and sprays.
The new skins that the few heroes mentioned range from rare to legendary. All these can be acquired through the loot boxes given for every level you gain. Once you update Overwatch to its new Winter Wonderland Patch, you automatically get a loot box the moment you open the game. Of course, what the loot box contains is still random so there is a small percentage for you to get all new skins.
The new skins have one common theme and that is Christmas. The few heroes with these new skins reflect the whole aspect of the new Winter Wonderland Patch in Overwatch. Some iconic costumes were Pharah's icicle suite that made her look like a tough snowflake, Zenyatta's nutcracker suit where the omnic dresses up as the beloved Christmas ornament, Winston's Abominable Snowman, McCree dressing as the Holiday Hater Ebenezer Scrooge, and Torbjörn as the very fitting Santa Claus.
Other new skins involve Mei's Santa suit, Lucio's, Zarya's and Reaper's Winter outfits, Tracer's Elf costume, Sombra's Candy Cane suit, and Roadhog's very offensive reindeer. There is a bit of a confusion as to the victory poses when Youtuber Unit Lost - Great British Gaming pointed out the 'Cheers pose' (where the characters are raising mugs) to not be available to the rest of the heroes. Again, only a few heroes have this festive pose. That isn't the only thing that comes along with the new Winter Wonderland Patch as one of the maps, King's Row, appeared to look exactly as the Patch name is: a Winter Wonderland.
