"Logan" is one of the big films that is expected to hit theaters next year and it might also be the last time Hugh Jackman will reprise his iconic role as Wolverine. A 40-minute long preview of the upcoming film was organized by 20th Century Fox recently. During the event, a photo compilation of "Logan" was being given out and one of the pages included a dialogue text from the 1953 movie, "Shane."
According to reports, the classic Western film, "Shane," may have played a key influence for the themes that are present in "Logan." The 1953 film that George Stevens directed centers on a traveling gunslinger named Shane (Alan Ladd). The protagonist encounters some ranchers that needed his help since they are struggling to keep a baron from taking their land. One of the ranchers had a son named Joey (Brandon deWilde) and he develops a bond with Shane.
Shane ended up being successful in protecting the ranchers and also saving their property from the baron. After that, Shane is off to another journey where he seems to try to correct his mistakes from the past, but Joey did not want him to leave. The young boy tried to convince him in staying, but the mysterious gunslinger has no place in a peaceful town. "Logan" may have drawn some inspiration from the setting of "Shane" and one of those may also be the setting of the film where some scenes are located in El Paso, Texas.
Another similarity that "Logan" and "Shane" shares is that the mutant also has a young companion in the upcoming movie which is Laura or X-23. Logan may also serve as a mentor to X-23 which is like Shane and Joey. However, many fans are curious if Logan is also capable of leaving Laura since he knows that his dark past may also involve the young girl. Also, "Logan" also has a modern Western vibe incorporated in the film, and it is obvious that "Shane" played a huge inspiration for the 2017 movie.
It was also reported recently that Hugh Jackman had a salary cut for "Logan" in order to push through with an R-Rated superhero film. The upcoming film is slated to hit cinemas on March 3, 2017.
