This past Sunday, Tecmo Koei Games and Team NINJA held the first ever official tournament for Dead or Alive Ultimate 5. FreeStepDodge was there, and is reporting that Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi announced that not only is a new update on the way in February, but the console version of the fighter is getting the arcade exclusive Marie Rose this Spring.
DOAworld had the following, and a bit more in depth information to offer on the update from Hayashi:
1) Version 1.04 update coming to Arcade version at the end of January.
2) More costumes will be added to Arcade, including new costume for Marie Rose.
3) The same 1.04 update (not including Marie Rose) will come to console in the first half of February.
4) This update for console includes bug fix and feature enhancement.
5) Marie Rose will only be released to console in Spring 2014 (no fix date yet).
Hayashi also reported that since the game's September release, the free-to-play Core Fighters version of Ultimate has been downloaded over 800,000 times.
Marie Rose made her debut in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate Arcade in late fall in Japan, where she remains as an exclusive. She doesn't have much of a background story as of yet, but as a young fighter of petite build, this Swedish scrapper is considerably different from the remaining roster of DOA femme fatales.
She's something of a lolita, pretty, peppy, and positive. As you might expect given her stature, she is fairly agile, and has combos and juggles to match. A defensive fighter, she can hop forward or backward and follow up her hops with quick strikes. You can see her in action in the video below.
We'll let you know when exactly players can expect her.
The freemium version of Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate includes four playable characters in Kasumi, Ayane, Hayate and Ryu Hayabusa. Other characters will occasionally be available during trial periods, or can be purchased separately. A training mode allows newcomers to get instant familiarity.
Included in Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate's roster are Ninja Gaiden's Momiji and Virtua Fighter's own Jacky Bryant, who joins fellow VF alumni Akira, Sarah, and Pai, along with returning Dead or Alive fighters Leon and Haya. New features consist of many features from the Playstation Vita's Dead or Alive 5 Plus, such as a new training mode, combo challenge, the ability to chose custom music for fights, and existing character changes.
Ultimate is a decent choice for fighter fans who may have missed out when Dead or Alive 5 first released last year. The game is out now for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
