Samsung Brings The Cloud To Personal Computers By 2017

Samsung Cloud Coming To PCs Next Year

Korean smartphone manufacturer Samsung Electronics entered the cloud computing industry when it integrated Samsung Cloud in the Galaxy Note 7. With the service, users can easily backup and restore their files and apps without plugging their phones into their computer. However, this only applies to Samsung phones. The good news is that all things could change in the near future.

Rumor has it that Samsung is taking the cloud experience to PC users by next year. Once activated, users can access their files and documents on their personal computer. Reports put the launch of Samsung Cloud "next year" but there is no exact date. But there are speculations that the service will be launched alongside the Galaxy S8, which is likely to be launched in the first half of 2017.

One setback of Samsung Cloud though is that they are not helpful with managing files. Part of access to Samsung Cloud is that users will get 15GB worth of free cloud storage and can buy more space depending on their requirement. This development also signals that Samsung will be competing with Google Drive, another service that helps users back up their files and date from their phones and across several platforms.

The idea of bringing Samsung Cloud to the personal computer was brought up by a member of the Samsung Cloud Team. Aside from backing up files, Samsung Cloud also offers backup options for certain applications such as Calendar, Notes, and Contacts. It also offers support for third-party applications. With the expected launch of the service, Samsung is taking a giant leap towards making the Cloud accessible and helpful to PC users.

With the ill-fated Galaxy Note 7 discontinued by Samsung, the company is now looking elsewhere to provide the service so it does not follow the fate of the handset where it was first introduced.
