Sony's had a helluva time at this year's CES what with announcing plans for a game streaming service, PlayStation Now, and now it's ready to share the wealth. Sony said the service would be going into beta later this month, and now registration for it is open.
If you're intrigued, simply click this link and provide the proper information. A PSN ID certainly couldn't hurt. Remember, simply registering doesn't guarantee you'll get access to the beta. Sony's announcement of the service caught a lot of attention, and there'll no doubt be a lot of applicants, so get in now while the gettin' is good.
In case you've been living under a rock, here's a rundown of Sony's PlayStation Now:
Earlier this week, Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House took center stage at the Consumer Electronics Show and revealed "PlayStation Now," a cloud-styled Gakai based service that will be bringing in some old-school PS2 and PS3 games to the PS4, and eventually, the PS Vita, smartphones, tablets, and certain brand TV sets. The news was also confirmed at the PlayStation Blog, which offered additional details:
- Play video games instantly across multiple devices, similar to the way you might stream TV, movies, and music.
- Stream full games to all of your compatible PlayStation devices including PS4, PS3, and PlayStation Vita as well as non-PlayStation devices, beginning with 2014 BRAVIA TV models and expanding to numerous other Internet-connected devices.
- Always play the most updated version of your game. With games hosted in the cloud, you can take your game with you - just log in with your Sony Entertainment Network account on a compatible device and your games and saved progress will be easily available.
At the time of the announcement, games were said to be offered on a pay-per-rental basis, or gamers can pay a monthly subscription fee, but the exact details haven't been ironed out yet.
House and Sony President Kaz Hirai have both come forward recently provide more details and speak more about the service. We've also seen some pictures and brief video of the streaming service in action, with The Last of Us, God of War: Ascension, Puppeteer, and Beyond: Two Souls all demoed on the trade show floor.
