President-Elect Donald Trump gathered the chief executives of the biggest tech companies in the US and conspicuously, Jack Dorsey of Twitter was not there. The social media giant refused to run the "Crooked Hillary" emoji during the campaign period. The tech meeting was held last Wednesday at the Trump Tower.
Dorsey Excluded Because Of Failed Emoji Deal During Campaign Period?
President-Elect Donald Trump has had a track record of being vindictive. Politico reports that a source close to the situation has confirmed that Twitter was indeed exempted from the meeting for not running the "Crooked Hillary" emoji.
During the election campaign period, President-Elect Donald Trump and his campaign team shelled out $5 million in a deal with that will allow Team Trump to spend "a certain amount on advertising and in exchange receive discounts, perks, and custom solution."
What's The Deal Breaker?
According to Variety, the "Crooked Hillary" emoji is based on "unproven accusations of financial improprieties at the Clinton Foundation. A Twitter spokesman said that Twitter pulled the "Crooked Hillary" emoji because the "issue was about making sure people knew what was an ad and what wasn't." The spokesman also added that it's "not about taking political sides."
Gary Colby, the President-Elect's campaign director for digital advertising and fund raiser, wrote in Medium post the details on what happened during their attempts in customizing the "Crooked Hillary" emoji. Colby revealed that it was Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey and COO Adam Bain who called President-Elect Donald Trump to apologize and explain why they are not running the customized "Crooked Hilary" emoji.
Why Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey Wasn't Invited?
Sean Spicer, an adviser for President-Elect Donald Trump, denied the allegation that the issue regarding the "Crooked Hillary" emoji was the reason why Jack Dorsey was left out. One transition official reportedly told Reuters that Twitter is just not big enough a company to merit a seat in the tech meeting.
Who Attended The Tech Meeting?
It is surprising to see that Twitter wasn't invited to the tech meeting especially since Jack Dorsey's Twitter is a platform that the President-Elect Donald Trump utilized to great effect during the campaign period. The Tech meeting, set up by Trump adviser Peter Thiel, was attended by executives from giant companies including Apple's Tim Cook, Amazon's Jeff Bezos, Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg, and Tesla's Elon Musk, among others.
