Daylight PS4 Trailer Released: Use Your Cell Phone to Escape An Abandoned Hospital [VIDEO]

Terrifying New Trailer for PC/PS4 Horror Title Daylight Released

Fear of the dark is one of humanity's oldest fears. Fortunately for our species, we've evolved to a point where a good percentage of us carry devices in our pockets that can emit light in the worst situations. The upcoming Daylight utilizes this to clever effect- your cell phone is the only source of light, your only hope you have to escape the abandonded hospital you awaken in. You're trapped but at least you can see.

Coming from Zombie Studios and publisher ATLUS, Daylight looks terrific thanks to the power of the Unreal Engine 4. This is a next-gen game built up for the PC and Playstation 4, where it's console-exclusive. Zombie Studios is perhaps best known for its shooters, including a few Spec Ops games and titles commissioned by the U.S. Military (Remember America's Army, which was used as a recruitment tool? Yeah...) but they also have dipped their toes into horror with the Saw games. Daylight will be their first game for next-gen systems and clearly seeks to scare you as badly as possible.

The best (or perhaps worst) part of the game? The levels are procedurally generated, which means that everything is jumbled up everytime you play. Flares that keep back the creatures in the dark are never in the same place, and neither the doors or hallways are ever in the same position. This should ensure that you're constantly in a new maze, always confused about where to go, and terrified of what's around you. And yeah, like the trailer says, sometimes you should ignore the awful things you hear behind you.

Note that the phone can also be used as a map to make things a bit easier- important items will also show up on the phone as well. But it can't be completely trusted, as it may be subjected to outside interference. Check out what it looks like in the trailer.

Along with Dying Light, The Evil Within, Outlast, and SOMA, the PS4 is really looking to be the console to get for anyone looking for next-gen survival horror. Daylight doesn't have a set release date besides "early 2014", so keep an eye out for it soon. It may be behind you right now.
