With Jack Randall being the main villain of "Outlander" Seasons 1 and 2, he has become a staple of the series, constantly ruining the lives of Jamie and Claire. However, it is still unclear whether the character is returning for "Outlander" Season 3 or not, and if a new villain would spread doom next season.
No More Captain Randall?
Diana Gabaldon's third novel, titled "Voyager," would be the basis of "Outlander" Season 3. While this is true, the producers still have not revealed what the show's plotline is just yet. This now puts on hold all predictions on whether or not Captain Jack Randall would continue in creating conflicts between Jamie and Claire in "Outlander" Season 3.
There is a reliable rumor though stating that Jamie and Captain Randall will be involved in a climactic and concluding duel in "Outlander" Season 3. It would then be the final duel that the two will see, which could mean that Randall may eventually die. With this, a brand new villain may be introduced in the upcoming season, replacing the colorful character of Randall in "Outlander" Season 3.
A Whole New Season
Showrunner Ronald D. Moore and Jamie actor Sam Heughan have hinted in their interviews that "Outlander" Season 3 would be a lot different in comparison to the first two installments. This may be due to the time jump of 20 years from Season 2 that the show will see. Last season concluded with Claire having left the Battle of Culloden.
Another report has stated that "Outlander" Season 3 will start with Claire finally reuniting with Jaime. However, she will soon unravel that Jamie now has a relationship with Lord John Grey. It also later becomes clear that the relationship between the two is more than friendship, but an intimate and romantic one. This could be another reason why "Outlander" Season 3 is deemed to be a lot different than the previous seasons. "Outlander" Season 3 is set to premiere on April 2017.
