Emerald City is the reimagined adult fantasy version of L. Frank Baum's world of Oz and is set to premiere on January 6 next year. NBC just released a new update on what will happen on the first two episodes of the series.
In the series premiere of Emerald City, "The Beast Forever," 20-year old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) is looking for her mother but gets caught up in the eye of a tornado and transported to a magical world instead. This world is ruled by the Wizard of Oz (Vincent D'Onofrio), the all-powerful ruler who bans magic in the kingdom and risks not only the growing wrath of witches but an impending disaster due to mythical forces.
Dorothy continues on her journey and comes across a wounded soldier with amnesia (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and a man (Gerran Howell) trying to help his friend (Jordan Loughran) escape a mysterious woman (Fiona Shaw). The adventure continues in episode 2 of Emerald City.
In "Prison of the Abject", Glinda (Joely Richardson) and West (Ana Ularu) meet in Emerald City and say goodbye to their slain sister, The Wicked Witch of the East (Florence Kasumba). The Wizard of Oz orders Eammon (Mido Hamada) to find out who or what dropped from the sky and disturbed the Land of Oz.
The series promises to be a visionary reimagining of Oz by Tarsem Singh, with mystical lands, dangerous warriors and a battle for power to thrill old and new fans of the Land of Oz as seen on Emerald City.
Emerald City will debut on NBC at 9PM EST on January 6, 2017.
