With the impending death of Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) in "Vikings" Season 4, Ivar (Alex Hogh Andersen) will take advantage of their time together to learn all that he could about winning battles and life. Latest spoiler news hinted of Ivar's imminent rise to power despite his disability and the young Viking's growing ruthlessness.
The earlier episodes of "Vikings" Season 4B featured Ragnar's return to Kattegatt, however, his influence and power have waned following his absence. With Ivar the Boneless as Ragnar's only son who does not hold any grudge against his father, the young Viking closeness with the fallen warrior will benefit the disabled man in the long run.
In an interview with TV Guide, Andersen described his character as a smart young man who put aside his personal feelings to learn from Ragnar. Given Ivan's ambition to become a famous Viking, that goal will fuel the said character's actions, according to the actor.
Ivar's time with Ragnar will also help him to become the legendary Viking that he is meant to be. In "Vikings" Season 4, Ivar will learn how to manipulate people, military strategies and other important things. Andersen added, "He learns a lot of stuff that you can't learn yourself without getting it from experience."
Moreover, Ivar and Ragnar's arrival in Wessex will provide the two characters the chance to become closer together as father and son. Andersen also credited Ragnar for giving Ivar the Boneless the opportunity to see another side of himself that will change his life.
Viewers can also expect to see Ivar's ruthless side in upcoming episodes. The youngest of Ragnar's sons, Ivar may appear subservient given his disability but he has a violent streak that "Vikings" fans will soon see in upcoming episodes, according to Andersen.
Meanwhile, the upcoming "Vikings" Season 4 episode 13 is highly speculated to feature Ragnar's death. Given Ivar and Ragnar's arrival in England which matches with historical accounts of where the Viking warrior died, the said episode may end with Ragnar's death scene.
"Vikings" Season 4 airs every Wednesday on the History Channel. Watch the preview for episode 13 below:
