Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift in one song? Now that's one combo fans never saw coming until last Friday, when the duo dropped a hot single for the upcoming "Fifty Shades Darker" movie.
Titled "I Don't Wanna Live Forever," the ex-One Direction star's partnership with the "Shake It Off" hitmaker is set to fire up the excitement on the sequel to the high-grossing "Fifty Shades of Grey." Zayn first revealed a sneak peek of the collaboration, alongside a grayscale photo of himself and Swift with the caption #idontwannaliveforever.
Those who know Zayn and Taylor well would point out to his girlfriend Gigi Hadid, who happens to be among the Grammy Award-winning diva's best friends. That's why fans aren't at all surprised to see them getting chummy in one photo - but the track that dropped afterwards just confirmed what many of them have speculated, according to Perez Hilton.
Coming off the heels of the new single, Zayn sat down on the "Elvis Duran and The Morning Show" to talk more about his unexpected partnership with Swift. He said that she liked the song the moment she heard it from producer Jack Antonoff, hence her immediate agreement to collaborate.
"We were kind of in separate places when I mentioned the idea to her. I spoke to her on the phone and she heard the song because Jack [Antonoff] had played it to her. So she really liked it and she went in the studio the next day," Zayn said of Swift's instant enthusiasm over the project.
Heat, however, speculated that Gigi had a hand in making the collaboration come true. With the magazine's source saying, "Gigi would do anything for Zayn," it was disclosed that the supermodel had personally asked both Antonoff and Taylor to put her boyfriend on board. This is perhaps in relation to the relatively tepid reception towards his new album in recent months, with "PILLOWTALK" being its latest and only song to reach number one in US and UK at number one last February.
Yet, with "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" storming the top of the charts in as little as one hour after it dropped, Zayn's star is sure to shine on. This time, of course, it's partly due to Swift's mighty star power and Gigi's unwavering support. Watch E! News' report on the new killer single below:
