Square Enix Users Enraged About Its Mystery Christmas Box Contents

Square Enix Users Not Satisfied With Company's Mystery Christmas Box Contents

It’s Christmas time and the time to open presents are nearing with heavy anticipations related to what’s actually inside the box. Apparently, developer Square Enix also tried to fit into the festive spirit by offering all its users a mystery Christmas box, although the contents of which, according to users, are far from satisfactory.

Leaving the spirit of the holidays behind, a boatload of customers took the official forums to complain about a festive Square Enix promotion that saw the company hand out Steam keys for Tomb Raider, Just Cause 2, Hitman: Blood Money, and Dungeon Siege III – all for £4.99/€6.99 (around $8).

The Square Enix Christmas Surprise box was on offer for European customers between December 12 and 20, with the mystery box also promising an unnamed selection of items that would stand to a combined retail value of £50/€75.

However, when the contents of the box were finally announced at the end of last week, a number of customers took to the official Square Enix blog to vent their frustration, which clearly showed their anger, while completely forgetting about the word “mystery” that’s also associated with the offer.

According to the English dictionary, the word “mystery” also refers to “One whose identity is unknown and who arouses curiosity.” However, the contents of the box, apparently, were not a fair reflection of the kind curiosity it may have aroused in the first place among fans.

User kimmonie wrote: “Wow a whole lotta nothin what a waste of a fiver I only play RPGs had been hopin for atleast one ff or something atleast worth playing and that voucher is just a rip off hell no will I be wasting any more money in your store.”

"I was hoping for Sleeping Dogs with all DLC and FF8, but expected that kind of rip off, so no dissapointment, rather confirmation what I suspected. All this games in pack I can easily buy for less than 20€," added another user eikichiy a few moments later.

Another user even criticized Square Enix of “false advertising” while also stating that the company sold a box containing stuff worth 22 Euros to fans while the fans were charged “not less than 75 euros”

Previous to this, Square Enix community head Phil Elliott, while announcing the contents of the Christmas Surprise box, wrote: “So we hope you liked what you received – we had a lot of fun putting the Surprise Box together.”
