"Hamilton Mixtape" Tops Music Charts In The US
Lin-Manuel Miranda, the musical genius behind the hit Broadway show "Hamilton: An American Musical," first announced the album's release date in November. Fans have been waiting in suspense ever since the actor and playwright revealed in March that he was still curating contributors for the project. It was only in early November when Miranda confirmed the tracklist for the mixtape, writes Billboard. The compilation was officially released on December 2.
The 36-year-old Tony award winner collaborated with some of the biggest names in the music industry. The "Hamilton Mixtape" is a 23-track album showcasing the musical talents of artists like John Legend, Sia, Alicia Keys, Common, Chance the Rapper, Ashanti, Ja Rule and many more. Each gave his or her own musical interpretations of Lin-Manuel Miranda's songs from his hit musical. The album also includes new songs inspired by significant themes from the musical, as well as demos from Miranda's collection that didn't make it onto stage.
"Hamilton Mixtape" Part 2 Coming Soon?
The "Hamilton Mixtape" has even surpassed its Broadway cast recording, which debuted at number 12 and only peaked at number three, following a successful Tony Awards night. The Grammy-winning cast recording, which has been certified double platinum, is still in the top 10 after 63 weeks on the Billboard 200 chart. Hamilton is the fifth highest-selling album in 2016.
Miranda had also confirmed via his Twitter page that he was already planning on producing a second volume of the "Hamilton Mixtape" when he answered a fan's question on Twitter. He made no mention of release dates yet, but hinted that "Room Where It Happens," "The Schuyler Sisters," and "One Last Time" will be in the spotlight for the upcoming album. He also later revealed that "Right Hand Man" and "Reynold's Pamphlet" will be among the many songs in the second compilation.
