Kevin stole the money from construction equipment company Holt of California and spent the cash on plastic surgery, season tickets to watch the San Francisco 49ers and $1 million on a mobile game.
Crave Online reported that Kevin Lee Co spent $1 million from the stolen money of his former employer on a mobile game “Game Of War.” The game is allowing users to overlook time restrictions placed on its multiplayer battles if they pay real money for it. Kate Upton is the supermodel for the game which contributes to encouraging people to spend real money in order to progress with the game. Kevin Lee Co was pledged guilty to wire fraud and laundering in the Sacremento federal court. This game has been harshly criticized because of its rewards for real cash. People say this game is more like a gamble than an actual game because it leads people to spend big amounts of money on it landing them in major debts as a result.
According to Daily Mail, an average player spends around $550 to keep moving to higher levels of the game. The company who created “Game Of Wars” is making around $1 million per day. 45-year old Kevin Lee Co stole $4.8 million from his former employer where he worked as a comptroller. Lee Co spends money on luxury cars, games and he also had a plastic surgery, but the strangest thing is that he spent one-fifth of the amount he stole in a mobile game “Game Of Wars”. In this game, users can build and burn cities to the ground and it is more like a gamble with no possibility of winning. Kevin Lee Co is facing up to 20 years in prison for the robbery.
Blasting News reported Kevin Lee Co was pleaded guilty on December 8, 2016. His purchase to the game was spotted by Kotaku as an unusual purchase. Kevin Lee Co started embezzling company funds in 2008 and stopped in early 2015 hoping he won’t get caught. Kevin will start his sentence somewhere in 2017.
