The Fast and Furious series has since run on the concept of kinship among peers. Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) have been among the most prominent faces of a feisty band of car-loving rascals always set to take on anyone who goes in the way of their "family."
But as the $3.8 billion franchise enters its eighth installment, a new challenge looms over the ties that bind the Fast and Furious family. Although destruction, in terms of automobiles, remains a signature feature of "Fast and Furious 8" as the trailer shows, the same would remain unthinkable for many as it applies to Dom and the gang, as the movie itself runs on the idea of betrayal.
As the first Fast and Furious movie - apart from "Tokyo Drift," without the deceased Paul Walker, "Fast and Furious 8" would surely be an emotional rollercoaster ride for those still reeling in from the fan favorite's absence. As Dom submits himself under the influence of Cipher (Charlize Theron) just as he was on course to living a normal life with Letty, the rest of the team faces an entirely-new test, GQ has reported.
It's no wonder that "Fast and Furious 8" is alternatively named "The Fate of the Furious" - complete with the words "Family No More" emblazoned over the movie's teaser poster. It picks up directly from "Fast and Furious 7," wherein the team has vowed to live normal lives after nearly a decade in full-throttling action. But as Cipher lures Dom from his quiet life back to the criminal world - the most damning testament being their kiss in front of his crewmates, the "family" takes on what could be their most difficult challenge yet.
Twisted metal, wrecking balls, and monster engines at full speed aside, "Fast and Furious 8" is set to bring viewers into what could be their most intriguing experience out of the series. Check out the HD trailer from Universal Pictures UK below:
