The UFC opened its door for professional wrestlers by signing CM Punk but his performance was very disappointing. There were also several fighters that made the leap from being a top fighter to a legitimate title contender. Here are the latest UFC news and updates around the promotion the past several days.
CM Punk having a second UFC fight?
Dana White made it clear that CM Punk might have fought his last and only fight in the UFC back in September. However, Punk's head coach Duke Roufus revealed to MMA Fighting that the former WWE superstar is in talks with White regarding a possible second fight inside the Octagon.
"I believe he and Dana are talking. I just talked to Punk on Monday before that, and things are looking hopeful. I can't say yes or no, but they're looking hopeful. We're going to see. Dana's always got a good recipe of what he's going to create, and what's best for the sport, and what's best for Punk and everyone else," Roufus said.
One fighter recently called out Punk and that is Emil Meek, who was impressive in his UFC debut last Saturday, per The Sun. He told everyone in attendance that he wants to fight Mickey Gall, Sage Northcutt or CM Punk, if he is still alive.
Tony Ferguson calls out Khabib Nurmagomedov
Lightweight champion Conor McGregor will miss the next ten months due to the birth of his first child. It is expected that the UFC is going to book an interim title fight between Tony "El Cucuy" Ferguson and Khabib "The Eagle" Nurmagomedov.
Ferguson recently called out Nurmagomedov in an interview with FOX Sports. He called the Dagestani native's 24-0 as padded. The fight between the two lightweight contenders is scheduled for the early part of 2017.
"I'll take his 24-0 record. It's (expletive) padded dude. Look at some of the legit fights he's had and then look at mine. I'll take my record over his any day. His record is so padded. He's a paper champ. Get out of here," Ferguson said.
Jose Aldo vs. Max Holloway at UFC 208?
Jose Aldo recently claimed that he will face Max Holloway at UFC 208 in Brooklyn to determine the undisputed featherweight champion. However, Holloway told FOX Sports that he is not going to sacrifice Christmas time with his family to fight Aldo.
