Various news, same inputs regarding "Marco Polo's" cancellation as well as conveying the reasons which pointed on Benedict Wong. Now all those speculations has come into fruition as the series has been confirmed cancelled. VP Cindy Holland said in a statement that they are grateful for those involved in the series.
"Marco Polo" has been cancelled by Netflix due to expensive costs of the production and rare ranks. As reported by Variety, "Bloodline," "Hemlock Grove" and "Lillyhammer" are among the original series that Netflix have cancelled.
TV Line also wrote that "Marco Polo" was the only program that did not reach third season. First Season cost $90 million while on its second season, the production cost a total of $200 million if combined. It appears that the cost is the core reason for cancellation.

Holland has been thankful to the actors who performed an enthralling performances, the producers, the crew, and their friends at TWC who did a great job in cooperating from start to finish. Casts includes, Lorenzo Richelmy as "Marco Polo" and Benedict Wong who reprised as Kublai Khan. In addition Joan Chen also played Pricess Chabi in the series as well as Uli Latukefu, Mahesh Jadu, Zhu Zhu, Olivia Cheng, Remi Hii, Claudia Kim and Rick Yune. As for the rumor that Benedict Wong's hope now is "Doctor Strange," that remains to be seen.

Recent reports have been implying that the reason for cancellation has been Benedict Wong's busy schedules as well as his demand for a higher pay from the company, but all these have been debunked. It stands to reason that Benedict Wong has ended his role as the might Kublai Khan.
