Former NBA Star Steve Francis Jailed on Burglary Charge

Embattled former NBA star Steve Francis has had a slew of recent run-ins with the law. He was arrested for driving under the influence in Houston a few weeks ago—even threatening revenge on the arresting officers. And on Monday, the former Houston Rockets franchise player turned himself in for a burglary of an unoccupied conveyance charge in Florida. According to jail records, the charge is a third degree felony that can see Francis jailed up for up to five years.

As reported by TMZ, after Florida officials found out about Steve Francis’ DUI arrest in Houston, they released a warrant for his arrest for an alleged burglary incident that happened last June. According to the report, Francis burglarized a BMW parked outside the Cortez Clam Factory on June 15. The former NBA All-Star allegedly took a wallet, a gold wedding ring, a gold diamond band, earrings and $100 in cash from the vehicle. The report also notes that two days after the incident, Francis came to the police department with a plastic bag of goods saying, “I just robbed somebody, take me to jail. I’m turning myself in.” Curiously, Francis left the police station without being charged with a crime.

A few weeks back, Steve Francis was pulled over for drunk driving and doing 88 in a 65 miles per hour limit road. Francis then refused a field sobriety test and was allegedly “verbally abusive” to the arresting officers. The officers also found weed in Francis’ vehicle.

Steve Francis was drafted by the Vancouver Grizzlies with the second overall pick in the 1999 NBA Draft. He went on to play 11 seasons in the league, averaging 18.1 points 5.6 rebounds and six assist in 576 career games. He played his first five seasons with the Houston Rockets carrying the moniker of Steve Franchise.
