Reports have been surfacing online that Ragnar Lothbrok will die in "Vikings" Season 4, as a result of his fall. However, show creator and writer Michael Hirst has debunked these speculations. He then added that Lagertha will still be alive in "Vikings" Season 5.
Fans of the historical action drama show have been wondering if Travis Fimmel will be returning for "Vikings" Season 5 as Ragnar Lothbrok. They have now been relieved as the character's return has been officially confirmed. With the death of Ragnar Lothbrok, Lagertha, played by Katheryn Winnick, had also been speculated to die.
This news had been circulating due to the events of "Vikings" Season 4 finale. In the episode, Lagertha had been stabbed in her chest. She has also not appeared in the flash-forward, so her fate in "Vikings" Season 5 remains unknown. With this, fans are led to believe that Lagertha is actually dead.
Michael Hirst then revealed in a report that a fan from New York wrote to them many years ago. The fan pleaded to the team that however many male characters they kill off, do not do anything with Lagertha. This served as a warning for Hirst for "Vikings" Season 5.
Hirst then intended to heed the fan's request, with Lagertha still being alive in "Vikings" Season 5. However, if Ragnar Lothbrok stays alive next season, the lingering question is whether or not Ragnar could actually keep his throne. Rumors for "Vikings" Season 5 state that Ragnar's son will eventually take over the throne. Jonathan Rhys Meyers is set to debut in "Vikings" Season 5, who will portray a character that rivals the family of Ragnar.
Meyers is revealed to not be playing the role of a Viking. He will instead play the villain in "Vikings" Season 5. His character would play a very essential role, as it could mean that the end of the rule of Ragnar Lothbrok is looming. "Vikings" Season 5 has no set premiere date as of yet, but is geared for a 2017 release on History Channel.
