This latest LEGO title from developer Traveller's Tales will focus on Emmet, an ordinary LEGO minifigure (voiced by "Parks & Recreation" actor Chris Pratt) who is mistakenly thought to be "The Special" - a character prophesized to save the world from an evil LEGO tyrant. Those blocks aren't all about fun and games, after all.
Don't worry about only playing as one character this time, because more than 90 characters will be playable through 15 levels. Since this is based on the LEGO brand itself rather than any one specific licsense you can expect much more variation than normal, including a new animation style that's desgined to simulate the movement and feel of actual LEGO toy sets. Meaning it'll hurt like hell if you step on a loose piece barefoot.
Most of the trailer is actually footage from the film instead of the game, but the in-game footage that's shown looks pretty fun. The LEGO series has been remarkable in that even though it's cranking out game after game after game it still manages to steadily improve their titles with each one. LEGO Lord of the Rings was almost as epic as the films themselves, and LEGO Marvel Super Heroes might be the best installment yet. They're certainly oversaturating the market but at least they're constantly changing things up and keeping things consistently entertaining- there aren't a lot of series that can say that.
Plus, can I also just say how much I love this take on Batman? He's been such a dark and brooding character for so long that it's nice to see him get back to his sillier roots, especially while doing a riff on that horse Christian Bale voice.
Check the annoucement trailer below and expect The LEGO Movie Videogame to hit in February for every conceivable platform.
