UFC 206 has just concluded. Here are the winners and the highlights of the event.
On December 10, in Toronto, Max Holloway whipped around Anthony Pettis and ended the third round with a TKO. Holloway is the new interim UFC Featherweight champion. He axed Pettis down with body kicks and counter punches.
The end came in the third round when Holloway hurt Pettis with a body shot which sent the latter folding up alongside the cage. Holloway pounded away until referee Yves Lavigne stepped in to call an end to the fight. Holloway's impressive finish also netted him a Performance of the Night bonus.
Ortiz vs Makovsky
Dustin Ortiz played in as an underdog and fought like a man with a crumb on his shoulder. His wrestling style was unsurprisingly sturdy against Zach Makovsky, and his striking was highly improved than his previous fights in the UFC. Makovsky, on the other hand, did really well. Actually, it was hard to see how any of the three judges found two rounds to give to Makovsky. However, Ortiz beat him with kicks and punches and made the fight one of his nicest.
Khabilov vs Saggo
It was an exhibition and a showdown for Khabilov. He beat Jason Saggo in every angle. Khabilov matched and exceeded his Saggo's substantial strikes and made four takedowns. Unfortunately, Khabilov did not reach the required weight for the fight, so some of the bliss was lost from his win, says Forbes.
Vannata vs Makdessi
Lando Vannata unleashed his innermost Edson Barboza in the first round. Unfortunately, for John Makdessi, Vannata made him portray the part of Terry Etim. Vannata had made a good record of himself in his debut fight against Tony Ferguson before submitting in the second round.
This time, though, he was the one who closed the show. Vannata is an exciting novice that every fan should watch out for on their radar. As anticipated, he bagged home one of the bonuses for Performance of the Night.
Lopez vs Gagnon
Mitch Gagnon has almost beaten Matthew Lopez in the first round. Lopez, however, endured the early onslaught to dominate the final two frames. Lopez's ground and pound, as well as his wrestling skills, twisted the tide against the home standing Gagnon. Lopez's suppleness was conceivably the most prominent feature of the fight. He not only recovered from the first round, he shined for the rest of the bout. This was Lopez's first win in the game history.
Swanson vs Chooi
Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi shattered each other up, but the Swanson did the better job. He shook Choi on numerous accounts and almost beaten him at the end of the third round. The tough South Korean, however, just kept fighting back. Swanson was mooring capoeira-style kicks, and haymakers but Choi was consuming them and rebounding back with very little time to recover. This was the fight of the night, according to UFC.
