Good news for all you mobile and tablet buffs out there. The classic 1980s arcade side-scrolling beat 'em up series Double Dragon Trilogy has been successfully ported for devices running Android and iOS.
Compiled neatly into a single gaming app, the new Double Dragon mobile port features the first three games in the series – Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone.
“Enter Double Dragon Trilogy, a compilation specially optimized for mobiles and which includes all three installments of the beloved arcade series: Double Dragon, Double Dragon 2: The Revenge, and Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone,” the official description for the game states.
“The first one begins with Billy and his brother Jimmy, two martial arts experts, in a mission to rescue Billy's girlfriend, Marian, who’s been kidnapped by the Black Shadows Gang. All your favorite moves are here: punches, kicks, elbows, knees, head-butts and an assortment of not-exactly-street-legal weapons.”
The game features two different game modes – The ‘Arcade’ mode that allows fans to play the game from beginning to end and go for the high score, and a ‘Story’ mode that unlocks new stages and achievements while playing through the game.
Apparently, the in-game controls can be customized per player needs apart from getting to play the game with three difficulty levels being introduced – ‘mobile’ level that’s specially balanced for mobile games, the ‘Original’ level that’s similar to the arcade version of the game, and the ‘Expert’ level you probably won’t survive.
As expected from most of the games nowadays, Double Dragon Trilogy for mobile will also be open to achievements and leaderboards that will make use of the Google Play Game Service for the Android version, and Game Center for the iOS version.
Interestingly enough, an exciting new co-op mode has also been introduced that links two players via Bluetooth, with the title also featuring gamepad support that looks to support most Android and iOS controllers.
Double Dragon Trilogy has been developed by flash and mobile publisher DotEmu and is currently available for purchase at Apple’s App Store and the Android-based Google Play. Check out the trailer below.
