BBC's "Sherlock" Season 4 is airing in a few weeks, but not without dropping an intense new trailer last week. The video heavily featured haunting voice of Culverton Smith (Toby Jones) and Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss) saying "It's not a game anymore. But it was the last scene that captivated the minds of the show's fans: Everyone's favorite detective, Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), saying "I love you" to an unseen person--or could it be directed to his longtime friend and ally, Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman)?
'Sherlock' Season 4: Possibility of 'JohnLock'
The new "Sherlock" Season 4 trailer unleashed a hailstorm of reactions from its avid fanbase, especially those who have been shipping "JohnLock," or John Watson and Sherlock Holmes. Of course, John Watson is now married to Mary Morstan (Amanda Abbington) and are now currently taking care of a baby. TVGuide also reported that the British sleuth seemed to have been saying it under duress.
Of course, there is one other strong contender for Sherlock's love: Irene Adler (Lara Pulver), the only woman who has ever outsmarted Sherlock Holmes. It's been hinted that Sherlock was indeed infatuated with "The Woman," even going so far as to save her from execution. Will she be back in "Sherlock" Season 4?
'The Six Thatchers'
The first episode of "Sherlock" Season 4 is titled, "The Six Thatchers," a reference to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Adventures of Six Napoleons." The original story, which is currently posted on Dr. John Watson's blog, followed Holmes and Watson as they try to locate a murderer tied to smashed Napoleonic statues. Meanwhile, the second and third episodes, "The Dying Detective" and "The Final Solution," are also expected to hail from Doyle's original stories. "Sherlock" Season 4 will air Jan. 1, 2017.
