‘Assassin’s Creed Movie’ Release Date, News & Updates: Movie Adaptation Is Here! Will This Finally Bring Video Game Inspired Films To The Spotlight?

The film industry has not exactly been kind to video game inspired movies. As shown in the previous titles like "Mortal Kombat," "Super Mario Bros," "Tekken," "Street Fighter" and the list goes on. In fact, the translation of games to movies had been so poorly received that many considers it as curse or film makers should just flat out leave this genre alone. However, game developer Ubisoft has confirmed that one of its well known games will get a live film version. It is no other than "Assassin's Creed."

"Assassin's Creed" is an upcoming action adventure film based on a video game franchise of the same name. The film is directed by Justin Kurzel, written by Michael Lesslie, Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. It stars Michael Fassbender, Mariion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Brendan Gleeson, Charlotte Rampling and Michael K. Williams.

In terms of plot details as reported by Empireonline, the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" film will draw inspiration from some elements of the game for its plot with a few twist of their own. The film will introduce fans to two protagonist, Aguilar de Nerha and his modern day descendant Callum Lynch which are both played by "X men" actor Michael Fassbender. Aguilar is a comes from a long line of assassins locked in a battle with their arch nemesis "The Templars" which has also resurfaced on the modern timeline by the form of Abstergo Industries, a private Madrid based organization dedicated to the perfection of mankind.

In addition to these details, as the film moves to a modern timeline, Fassbender takes on the role of Callum Lynch who is being hunted down by the Abstergo Industries and forced to relive his ancestor's memories by a device called as Animus. With that said, the "Assassin's Creed" film will be led by Michael Fassbender  (Callum Lynch, and Aguilar de Nerha), Marion Cotillard (Sophia Rikkin), Jeremy Irons (Alan Rikkin), Brendan Gleeson (Joseph Lynch), Michael K. Williams (Moussa and Baptiste) and many more.

The film will be set in the same universe as the video games but features an original story that expands the series' mythology. Filming began in late August 2015 and concluded in January 2016. "Assassin's Creed" is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2016 in France and in the United States. Now, the real question is will this finally put the game genre on the film map? That remains to be seen but fans are hoping because after all the game franchise is known so needless to say that they are praying that this film will be as good as advertized.
