I suppose we should've seen this coming for a game featuring well over 1,000 cars. It's been confirmed by Sony that there will indeed be microtransactions for the PS4 exclusive racer, Gran Turismo 6.
Sony revealed details on the pricing for Polyphony Digital's latest offering with the European PS Blog. According to an excerpt, "From launch at retail you'll find a new option for building your ultimate fantasy car collection. In-game credits will be purchasable through PS Store or your friendly local retailer at the following denominations: 500K, 1 million, 2.5 million or 7 million credits which you'll be able to apply in-game for cars and parts."
Denominations being what they are, it's yet unknown what the figures amount to in real world currency. It's hoped that the same parts that can be purchased can at least be earned in-game, so that microtransactions won't encroach on the experience or impact game progression.
Nobody likes microtransactions, but there is a silver lining in this particular news cloud. The same post on the blog also confirmed that digital pre-orders are an option, meaning that GT 6 will be available as a downloadable title, making it the first game in the series to be available in such a way. Read the post: "Starting today, Gran Turismo 6 is on the PS Store! You're now able to pre-order the Standard Edition or, for those seeking that little extra advantage on the track, the Special Edition."
The Special Edition includes the full game, 20 extra cars (Torque, Performance, Adrenaline and Velocity packs), custom PSN avatars, paint chips, race suits and race helmets. For those who pre-order, they'll get the Precision Pack cars for free, which are:
- GT-R NISMO GT3 15th Anniversary Edition
- R8 LMS ultra 15th Anniversary Edition
- Corvette Stingray (C7) 15th Anniversary Edition
- Model S Signature Performance 15th Anniversary Edition
- Viper GTS 15th Anniversary Edition
Gran Turismo 6 launches exclusively on the PlayStation 3 this December.
