Randy Orton says he was irritated with the way WWE creative handled his storyline after his infamous SummerSlam match with Brock Lesnar. He believes WWE could have made his character stronger despite getting dominated by the Beast Incarnate that night.
Orton said waiting for three weeks before being cleared to wrestle again irked him a lot because his character could have benefited by plunging back to action just days after receiving a huge gash inflicted by Lesnar's elbow in their lopsided main event match.
"The fact that I had a concussion and was out for three weeks and wasn't able to do anything pissed me off," Orton said about the Lesnar fight via IBT.
"We say this a lot in the back when someone gets hit harder than intended, we knew what we were signing up for. It's a rough sport. It's a rough business and very physical. A few more people need to respect how things can go sour out there."
Orton added WWE creative could have made their match somewhat competitive in a manner that it wouldn't hurt Brock's power character in the ring.
"I think with Lesnar, it's always going to be him coming in every few months as a monster who destroys guys who work 200 days a year ... There is a tendency for that to get old. I could have looked a little better that night and that would have helped me a lot regardless of the finish and not hurt Brock's character at all," Orton said.
Three months after that infamous match, Orton is once again creating buzz on SmackDown live as a member of the Wyatt Family. Together with Bray Wyatt, the 12-time world champion captured another belt as one-half of the Smackdown tag-team match.
They defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno at Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2016 and again on Tuesday at Smackdown.
