Day one of the PlayStation 4's availability, and some of the console's launch games are earning less than stellar reviews. Still, there's plenty more games to choose from than just the exclusives, and Sony has said that lot more games are coming to the platform in the next few months.
Scott Rhode, Sony Worldwide's Head of Software Product Development, has told Polygon that the PS4 will have "a pretty decent flow, especially from that small indie scene."
"When you look at a platform like the Vita, we did launch with a pretty robust lineup on day one and we got some flak for what came in the next couple of months," Rohde said. "People know that there are games coming...I love the fact that you've got a couple big first-party retail games at launch, all the third-party and indie games, DriveClub coming a couple months later and Infamous: Second Son right around the corner.
"There'll be something to talk about in the months to come, as opposed to cramming everything into the first month, and then not having anything to talk about for three or four months. I like the way this worked out quite better, frankly. It makes good sense for us to stagger [the release of] these games."
Rohde has a point, as it's well documented that there are still both exclusive and non-exclusive titles to look forward to, like, as he mentioned, inFamous: Second Son, or Watch Dogs. Speaking on Ubisoft's recent decision to delay the title, Rohde said that fans will "be happier that [Ubisoft] spent that extra four or five months making that game great, because that game has so much promise," he said adding that "launch games are tough," and that there's a reason "across first and third-party things shifted."
Sony even clued gamers in last night that a new Uncharted was in the works, and teased the possibility that Heavy Rain could also be coming. Clearly, Sony has plans, and we'll be watching from the edge of our seats.
Sony's PlayStation 4 is out now in North America, and will release in Europe and the U.K on November 29.
