‘Assassin’s Creed’ Movie Release Date, News, Updates: Animus Found Inside Templar Church; Solid Movie Details Revealed

The release date for the adventure movie "Assassin's Creed" is fast approaching, and fans are hungry for details on what they can expect. Director Justin Kurzel reveals how the existing and the earlier have been crafted in such a way as to have them smoothly and continuously joined with no obvious seams.

The two earlier clips of the "Assassin's Creed" movie gave a marvelous glimpse into the claw Animus in action. It is used to gain entry into the earlier. Kurzel also shares that "We have quite a few units that we have worked into the existing that almost feel as although the history of the movie is shadowing the existing day."

He adds that the Animus is built inside an ancient place of Templar worship and one can make out the ancient art and weaponry all around. The reason for picking this location is something Kurzel explains, "I desired an area in which you could set something pretty modern day in, which is this Animus machine we have developed, but for it all to feel linked to some perception of history and area in the earlier."

To add an authentic feel to the picture from the past, the scenes from history are rendered in Spanish, shown in the first clip released, to refer to the moments in history during Spanish Inquisition. Michael Fassbender can be seen as the Calum Lynch ancestor, Aguilar de Nerha from the 15th century along with fellow assassin Maria (Ariane Labed) in a carriage chase where the two are armed with swords in order to save a prince who was kidnapped by the Templars.

The second clip shown was one in the modern day world, and Fassbender here plays Callum Lynch, the drifter, the total opposite of Aguilar de Nerha who was totally focused on the Creed's cause. Lynch is trying to access the Animus in order to tune into his genetic memories. Sophia Rikkin (Marion Cotillard) is by his side assisting him in the process.

Although the film is told in the same universe as the video game it is based on, it attempts to expand on the mythology of the series while telling a whole new story. The upcoming film is set for release in the United States on Dec. 21 and in the United Kingdom on Jan. 1. It also stars Jeremy Irons who plays Alan Rikkin, Sophia's father, Michael Kenneth Williams, as Moussa and Baptiste, and Brendan Gleeson as Joseph Lynch, Callum's father.
