Facebook just upped its photo game with the the addition of customized location frames very much similar to the ones offered by rival social media app Snapchat. Will this new feature draw more people to favor Facebook over Snapchat?
There have been reports of Facebook experiments in Ireland with a camera that lets people take pictures and send them in private to their friends on the site. This seems to be different from the typical private messages sent and received through the inbox.
It was reported that this new camera will also enable users to add designs to their photos through the use of customized frames. These can follow a certain theme like Christmas or Halloween. Facebook will also reportedly be offering location frames. Users must overlay the frame on their photos to see the desired effect.
Any design tool can be used to create the frame as long as it is saved in PNG format. Upon submission, it will be reviewed by Facebook. This may take a few weeks. Once approved, it will be uploaded on the site. A similar process is followed by Snapchat users. For now, however, only Facebook users from Colombia, Mexico, Taiwan, the U.K. and Ireland can try the new photo frame feature.
This is not the first time that Facebook has ripped off one of Snapchat's go-to elements. It is noticeable how Facebook has been making more efforts to introduce a more private means of sharing photos and videos with a few, select friends.
Will Facebook successful in their endeavor to overthrow Snapchat? Stay tuned for more updates.
