Samsung may have a hard time convincing tech lovers to purchase its upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone especially after the Galaxy Note 7's safety issues. However, the South Korean company is investing more testing and development time to ensure that the device exceeds safety policies as Samsung adds more innovations to the unit.
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 may feature some interesting technological advancements that tech lovers have yet to see in a smartphone. With Samsung adamant to recover from its Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, it appears that the company is willing to go all out for its new flagship smartphone.
Similar to Samsung's Edge smartphone line, the upcoming Galaxy S8 will feature a big screen that extends to the side of the unit. Sources told Bloomberg that the new S8 will have an all-screen front with a display that will utilize the latest organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology.
The "all-screen front" claim will be made possible with the removal of the smartphone's physical home button. A standard feature in Samsung's previous Galaxy product line, the said key will be replaced with a virtual button to be placed underneath the glass screen.
Given Samsung's planned enhancements for the Galaxy S8's screen, the unit's bezel size will also be reduced. Speculations even pointed to the new Samsung phone having a similar size to the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, at 5.1 inches and 5.5 inches, respectively.
Moreover, an enhanced digital assistant will be incorporated to the Samsung Galaxy S8 that will be significantly different from current software. Samsung is also looking to use Snapdragon 835 chips as processors for the new S8 although other units will utilize the company's Exynos chips.
With the many innovations, as well as Samsung's more rigorous testing phase for the Galaxy S8, the smartphone's release may be delayed. Initially scheduled for a March 2017 launch, sources told the said news outlet that the unit may be released in April 2017.
Meanwhile, apart from the said enhancements, Samsung is also set to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack for the Galaxy S8, according to Sammobile. Similar to Apple's decision to remove the said headphone jack, Samsung will instead incorporate a USB Type-C port for its upcoming flagship smartphone.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress to be held on February 2017. Learn more about the S8 in the clip below:
