Extroverts should get ready for some good news. It's been confirmed that Sony has increased the friend limit on the PlayStation Network from 100 to a whopping 2,000 on the PlayStation 4.
I'm sure that I've encountered that number of people in my years walking this Earth, but do gamers really need such an enormous list of friends? Who's to say really, but hey, go big or go home. Extra credit to the person who first maxes out their list of friends.
For gamers sticking with the current gen for a while, Sony is keeping the 100 friend limit on the PS3, which should be more than enough for most.
We've also learned that while there will be a menagerie of apps available on the PlayStation 4 at launch, some fans were a bit disappointed in some of the music streaming services. Woory not, because MP3 and CD support is on the way for the console, courtesy of a post-launch update.
Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the news during a recent episode of Giant Bomb's Interview Dumptruck. Yoshida said the firm never intended not to support either CD or MP3, but made the decision to add it in after fans caused a bit of a backlash for not offering the service from the get-go.
"The biggest surprise for us all internally at Sony was there are so many people who passionately reacted to our announcement that there's no MP3 support or CD support on day one," he said. "It's not like we actively decided 'let's not do this feature so people will have to subscribe to Music Unlimited...The focus has been more on the game features. Some of the features we wanted but we couldn't get in on day one. We didn't really think about MP3 or CD. We thought 'we're going to do that eventually.'... It caught us off-guard."
Under the hood, the PlayStation 4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory according to the official specs.
It will support the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with a touch screen and improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.
The PlayStation 4 is set to release on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe. Day one games available for the system includeAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone: Shadow Fall,Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and more. It will retail for $399.
The company has some last minute games to announce, but won't be doing so until the console gets a bit of its own "midnight madness." The night before it launches, at 11pm EST, GameTrailers TV is hosing a PS4 All Access event, with Sony set to take center stage with some world premieres for titles that have not yet been formally announced in a blaze of last minute hype for the console finally releases. So it's got that going for it, which is nice.
