As most of you know, there's only 3 days left until the PlayStation 4 releases, and retailers across the globe are readying themselves for its launch, mega online retailer Amazon perhaps chief among them.
The company sent out a press release earlier today that included some pictures (seen above) showing a massive warehouse of systems all set and ready to be shipped out to gamers the world over, as well as some interesting facts about the release for the next-gen consoles. For example:
- Excluding Kindles, if Amazon combined preorder sales of PS4 and Xbox One consoles it would make up the largest product release in Amazon history for all categories worldwide, which is especially noteworthy given the price point of these products.
- Day-one pre-orders for the two consoles was nearly two times that of video games sales of last year's Black Friday.
- PS4 consoles are in Amazon's top 5 Most Wished For items in Video Gameswith the PlayStation 4 Battlefield 4 Launch Day Bundle and PlayStation 4 DualShock 4 Bundle taking the No. 1 and No.3 spots respectively.
Surely boosting Amazon's pre-order console sales and games numbers is a special promition the company is running. Amazon is offering buyers a free PlayStation 4 game with the purchase of two others. Target is running a similar deal, but it applies to both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Gotta keep up the competition, I suppose...
Under the hood, the PlayStation 4 boasts Supercharged PC architecture, X86 CPU, Enhanced PC GPU, and 8GB Unified Memory according to the official specs.
It will support the same PlayStation Plus service as the Vita and PlayStation 3. However, a Plus subscription will be required for online multiplayer games, but not for additional media services like Netflix. Sony has also updated the Dual Shock controllers with a touch screen and improved shoulder triggers, and bundles the console with a headset.
The PlayStation 4 is set to release on November 15 in North America and on November 29 in Europe. Day one games available for the system includeAssassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Killzone Shadow Fall,Madden NFL 25, NBA 2K14, Need for Speed: Rivals, and more. It will retail for $399.
The company has some last minute games to announce, but won't be doing so until the console gets a bit of its own "midnight madness." The night before it launches, at 11pm EST, GameTrailers TV is hosing a PS4 All Access event, with Sony set to take center stage with some world premieres for titles that have not yet been formally announced in a blaze of last minute hype for the console finally releases. So it's got that going for it, which is nice.
